How bad are water spots? Now imagine them on a black, blue, or red car, where they immediately catch your eye.

In reality, removing water spots from your car's paintwork is simple, if you follow a few small rules. In this mini-guide, I'll explain in two simple steps how to dry your car's bodywork and what you need to do it.

What you need to dry your car

First and foremost, you need a high-performance microfiber drying cloth, such as

The cloth must be able to absorb a lot of water while leaving the outer part of the microfiber still able to both move and absorb more water uniformly.

How do I recognize a good drying cloth?

I won't bore you with a long explanation of why your grandmother's rag is better than microfiber because I could talk about it for hours...

Suffice it to say that microfiber cloths have special characteristics that make them incredibly effective for cleaning. The fabric cutting process leaves tiny asterisk-shaped fibers; these capillary pores are able to collect dirt and accumulate it in their interstices, without moving it or lifting it into the air.

The smaller and denser the fibers, the more grip surface there will be for dust, grease, etc.

How to dry your car in two steps to prevent water spots

Step 1

Take a completely dry cloth, place it on the hood after washing, and gently press the entire surface of the cloth with your open hand so that it is evenly moistened across its entire size.

Step 2

Pull the cloth towards you. You'll see the magic: 99% of the possible moisture halo you might see at that moment will disappear by itself after a few tens of seconds.

Once the cloth is slightly damp (you've primed it), it will be able to absorb even more water and contain it, without leaving unpleasant water spots on your car's paintwork.

What to do if water spots still remain on the paintwork?

If a water spot remains after washing, as long as it's still fresh, there's no need to panic.

In this case, you need a super finishing plush cloth (600 or 800 gsm): these cloths are used only dry without any products.

Try to finish with that, and you will almost certainly have solved the problem in 4 seconds.

If the water spot remains because it has dried, you have no choice but to use a quick detailer.

Spray it on a 300 gsm cloth folded into 4, spread it over the work area, turn the cloth, remove, and finish.

If necessary, super finish with the high-grammage plush cloth.
